How to Clean the Backup Camera on a Volkswagen GTI Emblem

Volkswagen made a really cool reverse camera that pops out of the rear emblem, making it hidden until needed. This keeps the camera clean, but if you ever need to clean it, it can be difficult to find how to safely put the car in reverse in clean it. Thankfully, there is a trick that you can do to put the car and reverse and have the backup camera come out without having the engine on.

In order to engage the backup camera without having the car in reverse and the engine on, first engage the handbrake. After, put the car in accessory mode by pressing the start button or turn key without pressing the brake. This turns the car on without having the engine running. Then, put your foot on the brake and put the car in reverse. The car will start beeping but don’t worry, as the engine is not running and the handbrake is engaged meaning the car will not move. The emblem will pop out with the camera allowing you to clean it. Finally, put the car back in park and turn the car off.
